Southwold based brewers Adnams, have been brewing beer in the town since 1872 and in recent years have made a significant moves forward with their sustainability goals.
Focussing around the company’s strategy of ‘The four pillars’, Carbon emissions are a key element.
Reducing the carbon footprint
Adnams look to reduce their carbon footprint every year, largely through reducing energy consumption and have been looking directly at the energy and operational costs of Beer Coolers in their estate. Following this review and successful trials, the ecoFLO® Smart Pump System manufactured by Cornelius Beer Division has been specified following varied performance and energy trials. The trials demonstrated an average energy saving of more than 50% per cooler versus the units when fitted with industry standard pumps. This significant energy reduction coupled with numerous additional operational benefits of the ecoFLO® drove the decision to pro-actively change out the current pumps fitted in the Adnams estate.
The ecoFLO® Smart Pump System
Cornelius developed the ecoFLO® Smart Pump System as part of their Advanced Beer Cooler Technology programme aimed at disrupting the industry status quo to focus on modern design, energy efficiency and operational excellence. Not only does the ecoFLO®
significantly reduce energy costs, its smart technology controls the run time of the cooler during periods when no beer is being sold such as overnight without impacting product cooling during serving sessions. The net impact is to reduce the stress and run time on all key components logically leading to a significant extension to the working like of a cooler thus reducing the cost of ownership to Adnams. The pump itself whilst delivering a range of savings has a design life of over ten years which is far in excess of pumps generally in use throughout the UK pub trade.
